So I had a meltdown today, was driving home from class at around 10 PM. I'm already a little uncomfortable with driving at night, due to lack of experience. Well, traffic comes to a standstill on the interstate (I take Interstate 40 to Highway 64, and ride 64 all the way home...an hours drive). Then all of a sudden, the police start diverting traffic to an off ramp that I am incredibly unfamiliar with. I even asked the officer if there was another way to get to 64, and he said "follow the blue lights". The last blue light was at a stop light at the end of the offramp. And so I was on a busy downtown street in the dark, not knowing where the hell I was, or how to even get home. I called my mom and told her that I'd be late, because traffic got diverted, and she was fine with it.
It took...about 30 minutes to find an open gas station where someone knew how to reach the interstate. and by this time I was the next town over, and I was low on gas. Before I got to the gas station I had to pull over, and just sat there, Shaking, trying to keep a grip, and finally just deciding to sit and rock with the engine off, and the doors locked.
10-15 minutes later, i finally had enough of a grip to start driving again, and I swear, I hope whatever gods are out there bless the man who helped me, because without him, I don't know what I would have done.
But post meltdown, I'm still shaking a bit, because I was in really bad shape. my muscles in my left shoulder, and my right calf are really tense, and I have a pounding headache. I'd sleep it off, but I can't sleep, because I'm too wound up from trying to get home.
is this normal after a meltdown?

Sounds like you have just described the after effects of a meltdown that I have seen my husband have. Once he does calm down, it is a total crash.
I am sorry you had such a stressful night!

Yep, normal aftereffect for some of my meltdowns. The bigger and more unexpected the meltdown the bigger the aftereffect with me. Feeling bruised all over, and trembling. Sometimes running or so will help ease the trembling. Not guaranteed though. Sometimes the being bruised after a meltdown is there for a few days.
Sorry that it happened. Glad there was this man to help you. Hope you feel well soon.

Yeah, I feel bruised after a meltdown and it takes several days to recover after the really bad ones.

Know them well as had to leave lab today and beat it just in the nick of time. Getting much better at recognizing when to bail from situations where they can rapidly get out of hand.

I'm still amazed how people can deal with driving. It's a wonder that MORE people don't meltdown!

I'm actually fairly calm when I'm driving. I love listening to loud music in the car, keeps me focused unless there's a lot of visual stuff coming at me (Bright lights, like during contruction) then I turn the stereo off, and focus on getting past the visual things, then I'm good again. I can have a nasty bit of road rage if someone annoys me on the road. Some jerk aas tailgating me the other day, so I slowed down to just under the speed limit. he tried to pass me then, but I sped up, and trapped him between my car, on the side, and behind the car in front of/next to me. Then I flipped him the bird and went about my merry way

I don't suffer meltdowns while actually driving. But when I get lost or fuming in a traffic jam(often) I can have a class A meltdown. But when actually driving non existent. I held a CAMS licence one time, the sort of thing that allows competitive high level competition motorsport. The concentration is intense and whatever triggers there are no longer exist. I tend to think any problems I have stem to the other jerks on the road. Social like almost.
