I and MercuryGrrl have gathered a gang that might evolve into a formal group and voice for autistic people in Norway - possibly a chapter of Autistic Self Advocacy Network (they're cool). While if we were to be under ASAN we would have to take their name, but I like to think of it as Autistisk Nettverk - Autistic Network, I'm not sure whether I know any good translation of self-advocacy.
Neurodiversity is a new thing to many of the gang. They might agree with the basic concepts, but I think they are unsure what other (cultist?) things neurodiversity might stand for.
I have told them that neurodiversity is often seen as the anti-cure philosophy, while I have myself said that I personally find the question of whether to cure to be very philosophical but that I find it negative that certain (american) organization focus so much on cure. It was also pointed out that the cure question is pretty unimportant here in Norway as there's no visual contact here with charities like Autism Sneaks.
What we do have however, is a very big gibbering fundamentalist dogma-infested biomed culture, but because it is such a complicated topic aswell as a mine field that has little relevance to youth and adults on the spectrum it isn't really our first priority.
What causes we have left is to make meetup groups around the country, with a network - very nice if it could go online with it's own domain. It's also vocational rehabilitation which appears to be a big topic among many adults, personally I know nothing about it.
So where the hell does this leave neurodiversity-expert me? What could neurodiversity possibly do for this group?
I like to encourage scepticism against this wide biomed culture, but I'm not a medical expert. My big sis is however learning molecular biology and has some interest in the topic - she also has personal feelings against alternative medicine for some reason. I wonder if she might become confident enough to give some more representation of the sceptic view on biomedical autism interventions on the norwegian web.
Meh, I think I'll stop my rant by now, getting nowhere.
